Pope Saint John XXIII coloring page: October 11th
Pope John XXIII was recently canonized by Pope Francis in 2014. He is remembered for several things, among them as often being called “the Good.” He was ordained a priest in the early 20th century and spent time as secretary for his bishop. He is credited with having saved thousands of Jews during World War I. In 1958, he was elected as pope. As he accepted, he declared, “I will be called John.”
Less than 50 years after his death, Pope John XXIII was found to be incorrupt. He was beatified shortly after.
Traditionally, a saint’s feast day is the date of his/her death. Interestingly, however, Pope John XXIII’s feast day is October 11, and not June 3rd (the day of his death). October 11th is a tribute to the start of the Second Vatican Council, which began on the same day in 1962.
