Saint Benedict coloring page: July 11th
Benedict was born to a wealthy family in Italy, but as he grew older, he grew disgusted with the evil and vices he saw in Rome. He gave up his inheritance and went to live in a small village. However, as time went by, Benedict felt God calling him to live in even greater seclusion. Benedict left everything behind and became a hermit, spending his days in penance and prayer. It wasn’t long before religious communities heard of Benedict’s holiness and sought him out, to make him the leader of their communities. Several times, Benedict entered a monastery as the leader, but he was always too strict in his beliefs for the other monks. In fact, one group of monks even tried to poison Benedict. Benedict left the monastery and later founded the Benedictine monastery Monte Cassino. St. Benedict the brother of St. Scholastica.
