Saint John the Baptist coloring page: June 24th
This solemnity celebrates the birth and life of John the Baptist. John was born to Zechariah and Elizabeth, cousin of Mary. An angel appeared to Zechariah, announcing the great miracle of the coming of John. Until he was about thirty years old, John lived the life of a hermit in the desert. At that time, he began preparing the way for the Messiah. John spent his time preaching at the Jordan River, quoting the prophet Isaiah and baptizing people in the river. He also baptized Christ there. Because John was a great preacher and and drew crowds of people wanting baptism, Herod had him arrested and thrown into prison. Shortly afterwards, John was beheaded. The June 24th feast day is known as the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, while August 29th commemorates the Passion of St. John the Baptist.
