Dymphna lost her mother when she a teenager. Her father never recovered from the shock of losing his wife. As her father’s condition began to deteriorate, Dymphna, a faithful Christian like her mother, feared for her life. She fled from Ireland with her confessor. They ended up settling in Belgium, where Dymphna devoted her time to serving the sick and the poor.
However, Dymphna and her confessor were found in Belgium and killed there. St. Dymphna was only 15 years old when she was martyred. A church was later built in the same city where she was killed. Many miracles, attributed to Dymphna’s intercession, have been reported there.
