Saint Francis of Assisi Animal Toss
…featuring St. Francis himself!
A life-size saint is easier to make than you think!
You will need:
- a large (tall) piece of cardboard or foam board
- a picture of the face of St. Francis
- brown fabric
- rope or cord
- scissors (or knife for cutting)
- tape
To create the body, trace the outline of a person onto your cardboard or foam board. Cut out the body and drape with brown cloth. We pinned some fabric to the front of St. Francis to create the look of “arms.” Tape or glue his face on and tie a rope around his waist (we also added a rosary).
Our St. Francis turned out to be about 5 feet tall. Simply tape him to the wall or prop him against it, if your material is stiff enough.
We put a basket at his feet…
gathered a few animals…
…and turned him into a tossing game!
“[A]lways in every place ought ye to praise Him… your Creator loveth you much, seeing that He hath bestowed on you so many benefits: and therefore, my little sisters, beware of the sin of ingratitude, and study always to give praises unto God.”
-from St. Francis Assisi’s sermon to the birds
