Saint Nicholas of Tolentino coloring page: September 10th
In the mid-thirteenth century, an Italian couple prayed for many years to have a child. They offered many prayers at a shrine dedicated to St. Nicholas of Myra. When the couple later was blessed with a son, they named him Nicholas, in honor of the saint to whom they prayed. Nicholas went on to become a monk, and eventually, a priest. It is said that he was a remarkable preacher and confessor who also worked many miracles. Legend tells us that he once cured the sick with some bread. Nicholas had fallen ill after fasting, when St. Augustine and the Blessed Mother appeared to him in a vision. In the vision, he was told to eat bread marked with a cross and dipped in water. He did so, and immediately recovered. He did likewise with those suffering around him and cured many people. Some sources tell us that Nicholas raised over 100 children from the dead. Nicholas was canonized less than 150 years after his death. Today, his arms are relics in Tolentino, Italy, where he spent his years as a priest. Centuries ago, his arms would bleed when the Church was in danger.
