Saint Stanislaus in Legos
According to tradition, there was once a dispute between Stanislaus, a humble Polish bishop, and the King of Poland.
The dispute was over a piece of land. Stanislaus, who wanted the land for his diocese, claimed to have purchased it from a man named Piotr (Peter). However, Piotr’s family also claimed the land. Only Piotr could solve the dilemma.
The problem was that Piotr was dead.
After listening to the arguments of both sides, the king decided he believed the claims of Piotr’s family. When Stanislaus heard this, he asked the king for three days to give him proof. Stanislaus boldly claimed that he would prove his rights to the land with Piotr himself.
The king laughed at the bishop, but Stanislaus did the unthinkable. At the cemetery, he had Piotr’s grave dug up and ordered Piotr to rise. To the crowd’s astonishment, Piotr did.
Before the king, Piotr verified that the land belonged to Stanislaus. The dispute was settled.
Stanislaus asked Piotr if he would like to remain alive. However, Piotr declined and was laid to rest once again.
