Saint Thomas Becket became the Archbishop of Canterbury, and was a friend and chancellor to King Henry II. After a quarrel with the king, Saint Thomas chose loyalty to God over his friendship with the king. He was killed on December 29th, 1170, as he said mass in Canterbury Cathedral.  He is the patron saint of  secular clergy.
